Objectives
Our goal is to nurture practical acupuncture and moxibustion practitioners who can work in the fields of medical practice, sports training and Kenbi(Health & Beauty).
After acquiring a thorough knowledge of modern medicine, students are trained in various acupuncture techniques through clinical internship, and are educated to provide highly satisfactory treatment in collaboration with specialists in other health fields, presenting the role of acupuncture in the collaborative approach to health care.
Characteristics of the Curriculum
1. Practical “Acupuncture for athletes” from well-experienced teachers.
Students can learn about the role and practical methods of sports acupuncture treatment and the process of preventing sports injuries, dealing with them immediately afterwards, rehabilitation and returning to competition from teachers with extensive field experience, including those who have worked for professional football teams overseas.
2. Cutting-edge “Kenbi (health & Beauty) acupuncture “ from expert teachers
Expert teachers with experience in the field of esthetic acupuncture are assigned to the course, enabling students to learn in depth not only the treatment techniques and theories of esthetic acupuncture, but also the current state of acupuncture in clinical contexts. Students can also experience practical training using equipment that visualize the cosmetic effects of acupuncture and moxibustion, and students can acquire useful skills in clinical practice through objective evaluation in the field of practice.
3. Practical "medical acupuncture” as the skills required in interdisciplinary health care.
Collaboration with the affiliated acupuncture centre on campus and the university's network of affiliated hospitals and facilities allows students to deepen their understanding of medical professionals in other professions, such as doctors, nurses and pharmacists, and to develop teamwork skills. By learning about modern medicine, which is essential for working with multiple professions, and the role of acupuncture in collaborative approach to medicine, students can become acupuncturists who can play an active role in the clinical field.
Qualifications and Careers
Undergraduate students are expected to obtain certifications as acupuncture & moxibustion therapists (National qualifications), health exercise instructor, sports programmers, etc.
After qualifying, besides working in acupuncture or osteopathy clinics, students can also work in hospitals, private practices, welfare facilities for the elderly and sports-related facilities. In addition, as acupuncturists are qualified with the right to practice, many of them go independent and open their own acupuncture clinics after gaining experience in the field. Recently, acupuncture is also attracting attention for its cosmetic aspect, and its field of activity is expanding year by year, including health maintenance for the elderly and support for conditioning as the sports population increases.
International Activities
Acupuncture is highly regarded not only in East Asian countries such as Japan, China and Korea, but also in Western countries, and research is being conducted at world-class universities and medical institutions. Integrated with Western medicine more and more, acupuncture is recommended by authoritative societies in their guideline for headache, facial paralysis, fibromyalgia and irritable bowel syndrome etc.
